The ‘Visions of the North’ Conference venue is Compton Verney Museum: a collaborative partner of visual arts and art history research in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Coventry University, UK for collections-based, historical and interdisciplinary research projects.
Compton Verney is an independent national art gallery and museum located nine miles from Stratford-upon-Avon. Established in 1993, Compton Verney is an internationally-recognized venue for exhibitions and events situated in an extensive eighteenth-century landscape park designed by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. As a major venue for some of the most important art exhibitions in the Warwickshire and the West Midlands region, Compton Verney also works collaboratively with national museums and galleries throughout the UK and internationally.
Compton Verney House Trust is indebted to the vision and generosity of the Peter Moores Foundation (1964-2014), which funded the conversion of the derelict Georgian mansion into a state of the art gallery and museum. Find more information about Compton Verney here.
Compton Verney is home to six significant collections of national and international art which include:
- Northern European, (1450-1650): the focus for the’ Visions of the North’ Conference.
- Naples during the ‘Golden Age’ of Baroque Art (1600-1800).
- The British Portraits collection.
- Chinese collection, between the Neolithic Period (approx 4500-2000 BC) and Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644)
